WEEKEND WOGAN
Broadcast on Sunday morning's on BBC Radio 2 from 11am to 1pm, 'Weekend Wogan' in 2010 was a wonderful and completely live show, the likes of which had not been heard on British radio for many years. Combining Sir Terry Wogan's Irish charm and witty banter, a 350-strong, lively audience in the BBC Radio Theatre (apart from one 'Children In Need' special which was broadcast live from The London Palladium and two shows that were broadcast from the BBC's Maida Vale studios), Alan Boyd's magnificent production skills, and along with an 11-piece band, Elio, himself, not only musical director but also the featured artist each week, 'Weekend Wogan' ran for 34-weeks between February 14th and December 19th. In that time, as well as arranging, playing and musically directing for approx. 70 guest stars, Elio performed over 100 songs in his own right.
Chosen especially by Elio, here are 64 of those electrifying performances, in chronological order, exactly as they went out live-on-air to millions of listeners each week.
Thank you to everyone who helped provide these clips. Keep ‘em coming!
